
The second ECOWAS Lassa Fever International Conference (#ELFIC2025), opened in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, today with the theme “Beyond Borders: Strengthening Regional Cooperation to Combat Lassa and Emerging Infectious Diseases.”
Organised by the West African Health Organisation (WAHO), in partnership with regional and international collaborators, the four-day conference will be dedicated to addressing Lassa fever, comes at a critical time when the viral disease continues to pose a serious threat to millions across West Africa.

The conference began in the morning with the Minister of Health and Public Hygiene and Universal Coverage of Côte d’Ivoire, Mr Pierre N’Gou Dimba delivering the welcome speech, setting the tone for this high-level gathering.

Among those that delivered early speeches was African Union Commissioner for Health and Humanitarian Services, Ambassador Amma Twum-Amoah, and the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate.

The 2nd ECOWAS Lassa Fever International Conference (#ELFIC202 was officially opened by His Excellency Robert Beugré Mambé, Prime Minister of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire.
