Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has established a dedicated committee to assess, support, and rehabilitate victims of banditry across the state.
This is according to a statement released on Monday in Gusau by Shehu Adamu, Press Secretary in the Deputy Governor’s Office.
Adamu explained that the committee is tasked with providing swift interventions and condolences to affected individuals within 48 hours of any banditry incident.
“The committee will conduct thorough field assessments to evaluate the extent of damages, including loss of lives, displacement, and destruction of infrastructure, farmlands, and other assets,” he said.
The committee, chaired by Deputy Governor Mani Malam Mummuni with State House of Assembly Speaker Bilyaminu Isma’il as Vice Chairman, includes commissioners from key sectors such as Security and Home Affairs, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Humanitarian and Disaster Management, and Housing and Town Planning.
Adamu noted that the committee will collaborate with relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and submit periodic reports to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.
Additionally, the committee is charged with proposing medium- and long-term strategies for rehabilitation and prevention of future attacks.
During its inaugural meeting, Mummuni expressed appreciation for the governor’s trust, stating, “We are grateful to Governor Lawal for this responsibility and assure him that we will work diligently to justify the confidence placed in us.”
Adamu emphasized that the initiative underscores the state’s commitment to addressing the devastating impacts of banditry and fostering recovery for affected communities.
