President Bola Tinubu
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will make a one-day trip to Kaduna State this Friday, September 19, to attend a high-profile wedding and pay respects to the widow of Nigeria’s late former president, Muhammadu Buhari.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced this in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja.
Mr. Onanuga said the visit kicks off with Tinubu’s attendance at the wedding ceremony of Nasirudeen Yari, son of Zamfara West Senator Abdul’aziz Yari, and Safiyya Shehu Idris.
The event is set to draw dignitaries from across northern Nigeria, blending political ties with traditional festivities in Kaduna, the state’s bustling capital.
He said the itinerary also includes a poignant courtesy call on Aisha Buhari at the family’s Kaduna residence. Buhari, who served as president from 2015 to 2023 and passed away earlier this year, left an indelible mark on Nigeria through his campaigns against corruption and Boko Haram insurgency. Aisha, a vocal advocate for education and women’s empowerment, has been a steadfast figure in her husband’s legacy.
Tinubu is slated to depart Abuja in the morning and return by evening, keeping the focus on these intimate engagements amid his packed schedule.
The trip comes as the administration continues to navigate economic reforms and regional security concerns, with such visits signaling efforts to mend political divides in the north.
