Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu
Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, and the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, have jointly called on members of the Maituta dynasty to sustain the enduring legacies of their late patriarch, particularly his commitment to unity, selfless service, and the promotion of Islamic values.
The appeal was made during a grand family reunion organized by the Ibrahimu Maituta Foundation in Sokoto, aimed at fostering unity among descendants of the revered Islamic scholar and community leader.
Governor Aliyu, represented by his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Haliru Dikko, lauded the family for continuing to uphold the values instilled by their forebears.
He urged them to channel their knowledge and resources towards promoting peaceful coexistence, religious tolerance, and community development both within Sokoto State and beyond.
The Sultan of Sokoto, who also serves as the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), praised the reunion initiative, describing it as a laudable step towards reinforcing family bonds and ensuring generational continuity of cherished values.
He encouraged the Maituta descendants to emulate the charitable nature of their forefathers, using their wealth, influence, and knowledge to serve humanity and spread Islamic enlightenment.
Earlier in his remarks, the convener of the reunion, Dr. Jabbi Kilgori—Sayin Kilgori and a senior councillor at the Sokoto Sultanate Council—emphasized that the event was aimed at rekindling the spirit of brotherhood and collective identity among members of the Maituta lineage.
“It is a rare opportunity to reconnect and renew our commitment to the noble ideals our family stands for,” Dr. Kilgori said, urging all members to remain steadfast in preserving their proud heritage.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, and Tourism, Dr. Muktar Yawale Muhammad, expressed gratitude for being part of the Maituta family.
He reaffirmed the family’s collective dedication to honesty, selflessness, and service to humanity.
Dr. Yawale noted that the Maituta dynasty spans multiple states including Sokoto, Zamfara, Jigawa, and Kano, making the reunion a significant milestone in strengthening family unity across northern Nigeria.
