Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dispelled recent reports suggesting it has suspended the delineation of wards in the Warri Federal Constituency, stating clearly that no final decision has been made on the matter.
The commission’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, issued a statement on Monday in Abuja, setting the record straight following media misinterpretations.
“Our attention has been drawn to a publication that misquoted an INEC official regarding the status of the delineation process in Warri,” Olumekun noted. “Let it be clear: the Commission has not suspended the exercise, and no conclusive decision has been reached.”
The clarification comes in the wake of a Supreme Court ruling on December 2, 2022, directing INEC to carry out a fresh delineation of wards in the Warri constituency.
Olumekun also confirmed that INEC’s ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) is proceeding in all local government areas of the constituency. He emphasized the commission’s commitment to transparency and due process.
“We urge all stakeholders to remain calm and peaceful as we continue to work within the framework of the law,” he appealed.
INEC’s clarification underscores the importance of accurate reporting and its ongoing efforts to uphold democratic principles through inclusive and lawful electoral processes.
