Osun State chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has criticised the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Adepele Ojo, over what it described as her indifferent approach to the union’s ongoing strike.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Osogbo, JUSUN Chairman Idris Adeniyan said the Chief Judge’s lack of engagement since the industrial action began was “not encouraging” and falls short of expectations from the judiciary’s top official.
> “Her lordship’s abrupt departure from the state on the day the strike commenced without any step to resolve the issue is not encouraging,” Adeniyan stated.
JUSUN commenced the strike on September 19, demanding that the Judicial Service Commission address long-standing issues, including pending staff promotions for 2024 and 2025, and access to capacity-building programmes at the National Judicial Institute.
Adeniyan lamented that, weeks into the strike, the union had received no outreach or intervention from Justice Ojo, describing the silence as a setback for both staff welfare and judicial operations in the state.
> “The union is dissatisfied with the ongoing strike, without any resolution in sight by the Chief Judge,” he said, adding that the situation does not serve the interest of justice or the general public.
In a move toward breaking the deadlock, JUSUN has scheduled a dialogue with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Osun on Friday, hoping to chart a path toward resolution.
The union leader also commended judiciary staff across the state for their unwavering compliance with the strike directive.
