Sokoto State Government has confirmed the joint airstrike conducted by the Nigerian military and the United States in Tangaza Local Government Area, located in the Sokoto North Senatorial District.
A statement signed by the Director General of Media and Publicity Government House Sokoto, Abubakar Bawa, clarified that there were no civilian casualties in either Tangaza or in Jabo village, Tambuwal Local Government Area.
Bawa noted that the full impact of the airstrike is still under review, pending the results of a detailed assessment by the joint military authorities.
He also explained that the origins of certain objects discovered near Jabo Town remain under investigation, awaiting confirmation from Nigerian and US military officials.
“Sokoto State welcomes any collaboration between Nigeria and international partners aimed at combating terrorism and cross-border crimes within the State,” the statement read.
“The ongoing operations are designed to secure the State and ensure the protection of lives and property of our citizens.”
Highlighting the State Government’s continued support for security agencies, Bawa said over the past two years, the government has provided equipment and resources to strengthen efforts against banditry and terrorism.
He urged residents in affected areas to keep cooperating with both federal and state security agencies by sharing information that can aid ongoing operations and help restore lasting peace.
The statement also called on citizens to continue praying to Almighty Allah for the success of security agencies in their fight against criminals across Sokoto State and Nigeria at large.
