Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas has said the level of infrastructural decay in most public schools in the state has gone to a level which domestic animals rearing is unacceptable in the structures let alone training of future leaders.
Governor Kefas stated this in Jalingo during a 5-day training workshop for permanent secretaries, directors in the state civil service and the newly elected local government council chairmen in the state.
He declared that under his administration, there is no going back on free and compulsory education in the state, quoting that “education is the most powerful weapon which can change the world”.
He noted that education in the state is not charity but strategy, he further revealed that the level of collapsed structures and unsafe environments in schools within the state is unacceptable.

“Let me speak from my heart, education is non negotiable in Taraba state, for us in Taraba state, education is not charity but strategy, free and compulsory education remain the soul of our agenda.
“What we see today in some of our schools, like collapsed class rooms and unsafe learning environments is unacceptable, am speaking to my local government council chairmen now, you can not even rear animals in som of our school environments, let alone our future leaders.
“Chief Obafemi Awolowo warned that, the children of the poor you fail to educate today will not let your children have peace tomorrow, therefore education is not just a moral duty but a security and stability strategy.
Governor Kefas, therefore, directed all the sixteen Local Government council chairmen to immediately embark on renovation of three critical schools in their various LGAs, he promised to make available funds that would complete the projects as soon as possible.
