The Executive Chairman of Langtang North Local Government Area, Hon. Pirfa Tyem, has approved a fully sponsored two-week pilgrimage to Israel for the area’s Best Teacher and authorised the provision of five motorcycles to strengthen school supervision across rural communities.
The Chairman disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday and signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Kum Yakubu Precious.
He said the approvals were part of measures to reposition basic education in the local government through motivation, accountability and improved oversight.
The statement read in part:“The Executive Chairman of Langtang North Local Government Area, Hon. Pirfa Tyem, has approved a fully sponsored two-week pilgrimage to Israel for the Local Government’s Best Teacher as part of deliberate efforts to institutionalise excellence and promote a performance-driven culture within the basic education system.
“The approval followed a transparent and multi-stage assessment process coordinated by the Langtang North Local Education Authority, which produced Mr. Nanbel Nimlang, a classroom teacher, as the overall Best Teacher.
“An eleven-member committee comprising representatives of the traditional council, former education secretaries and zonal education officers was constituted to ensure credibility and fairness throughout the process.
“The selection exercise commenced at the school level, progressed to the zonal stage involving fourteen schools and produced three finalists before the final selection was made.
“Beyond rewarding excellence, the Chairman also approved the provision of five motorcycles for the Local Education Authority to improve the mobility of supervisory officers, particularly in hard-to-reach communities, in order to strengthen monitoring, inspection and compliance with education standards.
“The motorcycles were provided by the Langtang North Local Government Council as part of broader efforts to enhance oversight and improve learning outcomes across public primary schools in the area.”
The statement noted that the initiative had already resulted in improved punctuality, renewed dedication among teachers and enhanced classroom delivery across schools in the local government area.
It added that the formal presentation of the incentives was witnessed by Plateau South political leader and senatorial aspirant, Napoleon Bali, who commended the initiative and congratulated the award recipient.
The statement further said that Mr. Nimlang expressed appreciation to the Chairman and the Local Education Authority, noting that the recognition would further motivate him to give his best to his pupils and the community.
