Wolves beat Liverpool 2-1 yesterday in a game that had plenty of energy and key moments.
Wolves went ahead first after a loose ball in midfield fell kindly for them and they finished it well.
Liverpool had most of the ball around 62 per cent possession but they struggled to create clear chances in the opening stages.
Just before halftime, Liverpool got back into it through Mohamed Salah. He finished calmly to make it 1-1 and shift the momentum in their favour.
The game changed again early in the second half when Wolves restored their lead.
A dangerous ball into the box caused confusion at the back and was turned in from close range to make it 2-1.
Liverpool pushed hard after that. They finished with 15 shots and five on target, while Wolves had eight shots with four on target. In the closing minutes, Wolves’ goalkeeper made an important save to deny what looked like a clear equaliser. There was also a strong penalty appeal from Liverpool that the referee waved away, and the decision frustrated their bench.
Wolves sat deep and cleared their lines as the pressure grew. It was not a perfect performance but they did enough to hold on.
Liverpool will feel they could have taken more from the chances and possession they had.
Wolves however will be happy they took their opportunities and got the result.
