Liverpool's goalkeeper Alisson
Liverpool will be without goalkeeper Alisson Becker for their trip to face Galatasaray after he picked up a knock in training.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that Alisson did not travel with the squad because of the issue.
“Alisson has not travelled with Liverpool squad for the game vs Galatasaray after feeling discomfort in training,” Romano wrote on X.
Liverpool will now have to rely on their backup keeper in Istanbul.
Alisson has been a mainstay in Liverpool’s goal for several seasons and rarely misses matches, which is why his absence is noticeable.
The team has struggled at times when he hasn’t played. Last season against Chelsea, Liverpool conceded goals they might have avoided with Alisson in goal. Earlier this year, they also looked a bit off-balance in a Champions League away game without him.
Still, there is reason for hope. Liverpool have managed games without him before.
The defense has experienced players, and the backup keeper has stepped in successfully in the past. So while it’s a challenge, the team isn’t without options.
Liverpool have not said how serious the knock is. For now, it seems they just didn’t want to take any risks with their first-choice goalkeeper.
