Liverpool suffered another frustrating night in Istanbul as they were beaten 1–0 by Galatasaray, marking the second time this season the Turkish side have edged the Reds by the same scoreline.
The breakthrough came early in the game.
Galatasaray struck just seven minutes into the match when defender Davinson Sánchez rose inside the box to score from close range after a well-worked move that began with Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, who provided the assist.
That early strike lifted the home side as Liverpool tried to settle into the game at the intimidating atmosphere of Rams Park.
Galatasaray actually thought they had doubled their lead later in the match when Osimhen found the net himself, but the strike was ruled out for offside, denying the Nigerian forward on the night.
Liverpool thought they had levelled at one stage and celebrations briefly followed, but the equaliser was ruled out after a review, leaving the visitors still chasing the game.
There was also a setback for Galatasaray. Goalscorer Sánchez picked up a yellow card, a booking that means he will miss the club’s next match through suspension.
Liverpool pushed forward late on looking for a breakthrough, but Galatasaray stayed organised and held their ground.
At the final whistle, it was another 1-0 win for Galatasaray in Istanbul this season, leaving Liverpool with another narrow defeat on the same ground.
