Following the unfortunate insurgents’ attack on the Kukawa military formation, which resulted in the tragic death of the Commanding Officer in charge, Lieutenant Colonel Umar Faruq, a high-level Borno State Government delegation visited Kukawa to express the government’s deepest condolences, grief, and solidarity.
Representing Governor Babagana Zulum, the State Commissioner for Local Government and Emirate Affairs, Alhaji Sugun Mai Mele, led the delegation in condoling with the people of Kukawa town and the military formation of the Nigerian Army in Kukawa over the incident.
Describing the late Lieutenant Colonel Umar Faruq, the unit commander, as a dedicated officer who paid the supreme price in the line of duty, the commissioner emphasised that the loss is a significant blow not only to the military but to the entire nation.
The commissioner added that the gallant officer was highly committed to his constitutional responsibilities.
“We are here to sympathise with the Sector Commander in Monguno, the Brigade Commander, and all the men of this formation.”
“Governor Zulum has directed us to assess the immediate needs of this facility and develop long-term solutions to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring again,” Sugun Mele stated.
Responding to the gesture, the Commander of Sector 3, Multi-National Joint Task Force, Major General S.S. Tilawan, thanked the Governor for his proactive stance and continued support for the troops.
He said the military appreciates the Governor’s backing and his delegation’s presence during this difficult time, affirming that the military remains undeterred and committed to its constitutional duties.
He urged the civilian population to continue partnering with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements or objects.
The delegation, which included the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Modu Alhaji Mustapha, the Executive Secretary of the Security Trust Fund, Ali Shettima Marte, and other top government officials, was received by the Chairman of Kukawa Local Government, Hon. Mustapha Kukawa.
