
Paraded suspects
Plateau State Police Command has arrested 21 suspected members of the notorious Sara-Suka cult group and two individuals accused of spreading fake and inciting content on social media, in a renewed crackdown on crime across the Jos-Bukuru metropolis.
The arrests were carried out following intensified patrol and raid operations directed by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, as part of efforts to curb criminality and ensure a peaceful Ramadan celebration.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, confirmed the development in a statement on Saturday, linking the operation to ongoing security measures across the state.
His words, “The Command arrested a Social Media fake news peddler and 21 suspected members of “Sara-Suka”, a cult syndicate notorious for terrorising innocent citizens within the Jos-Bukuru metropolis.
“It will be recalled that early this month, a viral Tiktok video posted via the handle; *@townboii1*, was making rounds on Social Media. In the video, the individual was making certain inciting comments aimed at causing chaos within the State.
“The Command is pleased to announce to the public that the originator and owner the said Tiktok account, one Mohammed Shuaibu Adam, male, 16 years and his accomplice, one Auwal Ilyas Abdullahi, male, 19 years old, both of Rikkos, Jos have been arrested by the Command.”
Alabo further disclosed that the suspects confessed during interrogation and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
He added, “As part of efforts put in place to curb crime and criminality and ensure a peaceful Ramadan celebration, the CP had directed all Area Commanders, DPOs and Tactical Team Commanders to heighten Patrol and Raid Operations within their areas of responsibility.
“Consequently, 21 suspects were arrested at various locations within the metropolis. The suspects are currently undergoing thorough investigation at the State CID and will soon be charged to Court for onward prosecution.
“CP Bassey Ewah commends the efforts of our officers who worked tirelessly on the field to ensure that these arrests were possible, and encourages them to intensify their efforts in ensuring the safety of Plateau citizens and flushing all criminal elements out of the State.”
He also called on citizens of the State to remain calm and go about their daily activities without fear, as the Command remains capable and committed to ensuring their safety.
