
Crime suspect in police handcuff
A 30-year-old man, Musbawu Amodu, has been arrested by the Nasarawa State Police Command for allegedly beating his 20-year-old wife to death following a domestic dispute in Angwan Yahaya, Agyaragu, Obi Local Government Area of the state.
The incident, which has thrown the community into mourning, reportedly left behind two young children—a boy and a girl—from the couple’s six-year marriage.
According to the police, the case was reported to the Agyaragu Police Division at about 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2026. The complaint alleged that the suspect had physically assaulted his wife, inflicting injuries that led to her death.
Confirming the development in a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Nasarawa State Command, SP Rahman Nansel, said the Divisional Police Officer immediately deployed patrol officers to the scene after receiving the report.
He explained that the victim was evacuated to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lafia, where she was examined by medical personnel and her body preserved.
Nansel disclosed that the suspect was arrested shortly after the incident and allegedly admitted to assaulting his wife during interrogation.
According to the police spokesperson, the suspect said he became enraged after the deceased allegedly refused to prepare food for him.
> “According to him, an argument ensued, which escalated into a physical altercation that ultimately resulted in her death. He has since expressed remorse over his actions.”
The Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia for a comprehensive investigation.
The police commissioner assured residents that the matter would be diligently investigated and that the suspect would be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded.
Mohammed also condemned the incident, describing it as both tragic and preventable. He urged couples and family members to resolve disagreements through dialogue, patience and lawful means, stressing that no misunderstanding should end in the loss of a human life.
The command further assured residents that Agyaragu and surrounding communities remain peaceful, adding that security personnel are continuing to monitor the area.
