Senator Shaibu Lau (Taraba North, APC)
Senator representing Taraba North Senatorial District, Shaibu Lau, has denied reports circulating on social media alleging that he instituted legal action against the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the party’s senatorial primary election.
The lawmaker described the claim as false, malicious and the handiwork of anti-party elements determined to undermine the progress of the APC in Taraba State ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
The reports had alleged that Lau challenged the outcome of the APC senatorial primary election that produced him as the party’s candidate for Taraba North.
Reacting to the development during a telephone interview with journalists in Jalingo on Sunday, the senator dismissed the report as a deliberate attempt to mislead party supporters and create unnecessary tension within the APC.
“I have not, and never petitioned the NWC of the APC, there is no originating summons from me nor my lawyers. I have no course to do such.
“Anybody who claimed I have petitioned the recent senatorial primary election should come out with genuine papers to prove that myself or my lawyers have done so, the NWC were notified with the social media post, they told me point blank that such thing have not gotten to their lawyers.
“It is the handwork of people who are jealous of the progress we are recording toward the coming general elections of the APC in Taraba state that have embarked on such propaganda.
“I call on my supporters to remain focus, steadfast and committed to the coming general elections to deliver our candidates, APC have stand a chance to defeat the opposition parties, nobody should distract anyone,” Lau said.
The senator urged APC members and his supporters to ignore what he described as baseless propaganda and remain united in working toward the party’s success in the forthcoming elections.
He maintained that the APC in Taraba State remains focused on strengthening its campaign and expressed confidence that the party is well-positioned to challenge the opposition at the polls.
