
Human rights activist and 2027 presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has felicitated with Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, on the occasion of his 92nd birthday, describing him as one of Africa’s most influential intellectuals and a steadfast voice for justice and freedom.
In a message shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, Sowore paid glowing tribute to the literary icon, acknowledging his immense contributions to literature, democracy and the defence of human rights.
“Today belongs to Prof. Wole Soyinka as he marks his 92nd birthday,” Sowore wrote.
He celebrated Soyinka’s global accomplishments, describing him as “Africa’s first Nobel Laureate in Literature, a towering intellectual, playwright, poet, and one of the continent’s most enduring voices for justice, freedom, and the dignity of humanity.”
Sowore also offered prayers for the elder statesman, wishing him continued good health and strength to keep inspiring people across generations.
“I wish Prof. Soyinka good health, continued strength, and many more years of inspiring generations with his courage, intellect, and unwavering commitment to truth.”
He concluded his birthday message with a simple greeting: “Happy 92nd Birthday, Prof. Wole Soyinka!”
Professor Soyinka, Africa’s first recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature, remains one of the continent’s most celebrated writers and public intellectuals. Over the decades, he has earned global recognition for his literary works and his consistent advocacy for democracy, human rights and good governance.
