Managing Director of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, Barr. Oluwaseun Faleye, on Tuesday commissioned an Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS) Help Desk at the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation in Abuja, aimed at improving access to compensation for federal civil servants.
Faleye said the Help Desk would make it easier for workers to get information, file claims and resolve issues linked to workplace injuries.
He described it as the first of its kind within the federal civil service, saying it introduces a more structured system tied to payroll administration.
“It is a bold statement that the Nigerian Government is not only committed to service, but also to the safety, welfare, and security of those who serve,” he said.
He added that civil servants under treasury-funded Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) are now being brought into the scheme through a coordinated system designed to strengthen coverage and accountability.
According to him, the Help Desk will serve as a central point for eligibility checks, claims processing and complaint handling, while working with liaison officers across MDAs to ensure compliance.
Faleye said the arrangement is expected to reduce delays and make the process clearer for workers handling compensation matters.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting social protection reforms, and also praised the Head of Service, Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, for backing the initiative.
In her remarks, Walson-Jack described the development as long overdue, noting that it reflects the gradual implementation of a welfare framework that has taken years to materialise.
“This is a historic moment… an act coming to life after 16 years,” she said, adding that it strengthens welfare provisions for civil servants.
The event also featured the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the NSITF and the Office of the Head of Service to deepen collaboration on the scheme.
