The arrested suspects
Ogun State Police Command has uncovered fresh details in an ongoing criminal investigation after arresting two suspects in Ijebu-Ode who have now been linked to a kidnapping and murder case in neighbouring Edo State.
Police authorities disclosed that the suspects, apprehended in the Atiba area of Ijebu-Ode, were identified as 25-year-old Gafaru Adamu and 20-year-old Muhammed Sanni.
According to the Command, the arrests followed intelligence-driven investigations carried out by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit after the suspects were initially apprehended by personnel of the Nigeria Forest Security Service.
The Command stated that preliminary investigations revealed that the duo is wanted in connection with a kidnapping and murder case reported in the Okada area of Edo State.
Investigators further uncovered intelligence suggesting that the suspects are members of a seven-man kidnapping syndicate allegedly involved in the crime under investigation.
During a search conducted as part of the operation, police recovered a pair of police camouflage uniform and three mobile phones from the suspects. The recovered items have since been documented and taken into custody as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.
The Ogun State Police Command noted that the alleged crimes were committed outside its jurisdiction and confirmed that the suspects, along with all exhibits recovered from them, would be handed over to the Edo State Police Command for further investigation and legal action.
Commenting on the development, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised the officers involved in the operation.
The police chief commended “the professionalism, diligence, and intelligence-gathering capabilities of the operatives whose swift actions led to the identification of the suspects and the recovery of critical exhibits.”
Ojajuni reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities within the state, stressing that Ogun would not serve as a refuge for criminals.
“The Command remains resolute in its determination to prevent criminal elements from using Ogun State as a hideout or transit point for unlawful activities,” he said.
He further assured residents that the Command would continue to strengthen security through intelligence-led policing and collaboration with law enforcement agencies across state boundaries.
“The Command will continue to deploy intelligence-led strategies, proactive policing measures, and strategic inter-state collaboration to strengthen public safety and security across the state,” the commissioner added.
The police also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could assist in the fight against crime and criminality.
The development marks a significant breakthrough in efforts to dismantle kidnapping networks operating across state lines and underscores the growing collaboration among security agencies in addressing violent crimes.
