The All Progressives Congress National Assembly Primary Election Committee for Borno State has declared nine House of Representatives aspirants as duly elected in the party’s primaries, while the election for the Askira/Uba/Hawul Federal Constituency was declared inconclusive following a petition filed before the Appeal Committee.
Chairman of the committee, Prophet Jones Ode Erue, made the announcement on Sunday during a press conference at the APC State Secretariat in Maiduguri.
Erue explained that the committee was inaugurated by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC and deployed to oversee the conduct of the National Assembly primary elections in Borno State in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act and the party’s constitution.
According to him, the exercise was conducted in compliance with Sections 84, 86 and 87 of the Electoral Act, Article 20 of the APC Constitution, and other approved guidelines and procedures of the party.
He listed members of the seven-man committee to include Hon. Musa Mahmood, Hon. Musa Abdullahi, Hon. Ibrahim Bilal, Hon. Abdullahi Abubakar, Samaila Yusuf and Prof. Mobolaji Omobowale, who served as secretary.
The chairman noted that the committee supervised the primaries across the 27 local government areas and 312 electoral wards spread across the 10 federal constituencies in the state, with support from a local election committee.
He said the exercise was largely peaceful and orderly.
“The House of Representatives Primary Elections were successfully conducted and concluded across nine (9) out of ten (10) Federal Constituencies in a peaceful, transparent, orderly, and highly commendable manner.
“Party members demonstrated unity, maturity, discipline, and unwavering commitment throughout the exercise,” Erue stated.
Speaking on the unresolved constituency, he said: “However, at the Askira/Uba/Hawul Federal Constituency, complaints were received from one (1) of the aspirants, Comrade Audu Garba Zali.
“Therefore, our Committee shall wait for the report of the Appeals Committee before results are announced.”
Erue further disclosed that most of the candidates emerged through consensus and affirmation arrangements agreed upon by stakeholders and delegates without disputes or protests.
“Candidates for the House of Representatives elections emerged predominantly through affirmation and unanimous consensus arrangements freely and amicably adopted by stakeholders and party delegates without rancour, dispute, protest, or objection, including instances involving single unopposed candidates,” he said.
He added that direct primaries were conducted in two constituencies — Bama/Ngala/Kala Balge and Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC).
The committee chairman also confirmed that officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies monitored the exercise across the state.
According to him, the committee was satisfied that the primaries complied with the Electoral Act, APC constitution and approved guidelines.
He said the exercise was adjudged to be free, fair, transparent and widely accepted.
Consequently, Erue formally declared the successful aspirants as winners of the APC House of Representatives primary elections conducted on May 16, 2026.
“Consequently, by the powers vested in me as Chairman of the House of Representatives Primary Election Committee and Returning Officer for the Borno State House of Representatives Primary Elections held on the 16th day of May, 2026.
“I, Prophet Jones Ode Erue, hereby declare, affirm, and present the under list candidates as duly elected and returned as winners of the APC House of Representatives Primary Elections in Borno State,” he announced.
