Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has announced a temporary statewide restriction on vehicular and human movement during the Eid-al-Kabir celebrations as part of measures to ensure adequate security across the state.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Maiduguri by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Prof. Usman Tar.
According to the statement, the restriction, approved by Governor Zulum, will take effect from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Eid day and will affect all categories of vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles across the state.
The government said the measure was aimed at guaranteeing peaceful Eid prayers and safeguarding residents during the festive period.
“The Borno State Government felicitates with the Shehu of Borno, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Dr. Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi and the Muslim Ummah on Eid-al-Kabir,” the statement read.
Residents were advised to observe their prayers at Eid grounds closest to their homes to ease movement, improve coordination, and support security operations.
The statement added that security agencies, ambulances and other emergency responders, fire service personnel, as well as essential duty workers with valid means of identification, would be exempted from the restriction.
The government also appealed to residents across the 27 local government areas of the state to cooperate fully with security operatives and comply with the directive in the interest of public safety.
Parents and guardians were further urged to caution their children and wards against acts capable of disrupting public peace during the celebrations.
Governor Zulum, while extending Eid greetings to the people of the state, called on residents to continue praying for lasting peace in Borno and Nigeria at large.
He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening security, reconstruction efforts, and the resettlement of displaced communities affected by insurgency.
