Hon. Rabiu Aiki
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Rabiu Garba Aiki of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the Zuru State Constituency by-election in Kebbi State.
Announcing the result at the collation centre, the Returning Officer, Professor Muhammad Bashar Danladi, said Aiki secured 4,871 votes.
His closest challenger, Aliyu Galadima Muhammad of the Labour Party (LP), polled 168 votes in the election. According to INEC, the constituency has 109,385 registered voters, while only 5,156 voters were accredited to participate in the poll.
The commission recorded 5,055 valid votes and 95 rejected ballots during the exercise. Results from the 10 wards showed the APC maintained a commanding lead throughout the voting process.
The by-election was conducted to fill the vacancy created by the death of the former Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru.
Despite the peaceful conduct of the poll, voter turnout remained low across most parts of the constituency.
