District Head of Makarfi, Alhaji Adamu Abdullahi, has commended Governor Uba Sani for transforming the General Hospital, Makarfi, saying the intervention has reversed decades of neglect and revitalised healthcare delivery in the community.
Speaking during a statewide media tour of projects executed by the Kaduna State Government in Zone One, the traditional ruler said the reconstruction and modernisation of the hospital had improved access to quality healthcare, restored public confidence in government-owned health facilities and renewed hope among residents.
The media tour was led by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, and the Commissioner for Health, Hajiya Umma K. Ahmad, as part of efforts to showcase the impact of ongoing development projects across the state.
Alhaji Adamu recalled that the hospital, established in the early 1970s, had not witnessed any major renovation or received modern medical equipment for more than 40 years before the intervention of the present administration.
According to him, the upgraded facility has addressed longstanding healthcare challenges and significantly improved the well-being of residents in Makarfi and neighbouring communities.
“For many years, our people endured inadequate healthcare services and were forced to travel long distances in search of quality medical treatment. Today, that situation has changed,” he said.
The district head added that Governor Uba Sani had fulfilled a longstanding promise to the people by reconstructing and equipping the hospital with modern facilities.
“The reconstruction and equipping of this hospital have brought relief to our people, restored confidence in public healthcare and renewed hope for the community. We are grateful that the governor has kept his promise,” he said.
He noted that the hospital now serves as a major healthcare centre for residents of Makarfi and surrounding communities who depend on the facility for medical services.
Residents who spoke during the visit also lauded the project, describing it as a life-changing intervention.
A patient at the hospital, Malama Sadiya Rabiu, said the modernisation of the facility had reduced the hardship and cost associated with seeking treatment outside the local government area.
“Today, we can access quality healthcare services close to home. This has brought immense relief to families, and we appreciate Governor Uba Sani for fulfilling his promise,” she said.
Similarly, a resident, Abdullahi Musa, said the project had strengthened public trust in government and demonstrated the administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of ordinary citizens.
Makarfi General Hospital is among the 16 general hospitals currently being reconstructed and modernised under Governor Uba Sani’s healthcare transformation programme.
Speaking during the tour, the Commissioner for Health, Hajiya Umma K. Ahmad, said the project reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and expanding access to affordable and quality healthcare services across Kaduna State.
She reiterated that the government regards healthcare as a fundamental right and would continue to invest in the rehabilitation, upgrading and equipping of health facilities, particularly in underserved communities.
