Harry Kane scored twice as England came from behind to beat DR Congo 2-1 and reach the 2026 FIFA World Cup last 16. Brian Cipenga had stunned the Three Lions with an early goal after a costly defensive mistake.
England struggled for long periods, but Kane headed home Bukayo Gordon’s cross to level the match with 15 minutes remaining.
Kane then sealed the comeback in the 86th minute with a powerful finish after another assist from Anthony Gordon.
DR Congo pushed England to the limit and came close to extending their lead before halftime.
The victory keeps England’s hopes of ending their 60-year wait for a major trophy alive.
Thomas Tuchel’s side will now face co-hosts Mexico in a difficult last-16 clash, while DR Congo bow out after an impressive World Cup campaign.
