Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Wednesday disclosed that he held talks with the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Patrick Egloff, on strengthening cooperation in key sectors critical to Nigeria’s development.
Obi made this known in a post shared on his official X handle, where he described the meeting as productive and focused on advancing Nigeria’s development agenda through stronger international partnerships.
According to him, the discussion centred on sectors such as education, healthcare and poverty reduction, which he identified as essential drivers of sustainable national development.
Reflecting on the meeting, Obi wrote: “Yesterday, I met with the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Patrick Egloff, and we had a productive and engaging discussion on our country’s developmental journey, with particular emphasis on the critical sectors that drive development: education, healthcare, and lifting people out of poverty.”
The former Anambra State governor also commended the Swiss Confederation for its longstanding support to Nigeria across several sectors.
He acknowledged Switzerland’s contributions to economic development, humanitarian interventions, cultural cooperation and peace-building efforts, particularly in Nigeria’s North-East.
Obi stated: “I expressed my gratitude for the invaluable contributions of the Swiss Confederation to Nigeria’s development, especially its support for critical economic, cultural, humanitarian, and peace-building initiatives, particularly in the North-East.”
He stressed that expanding partnerships based on shared values and a common commitment to improving the lives of citizens would help accelerate national development.
In his words: “Building stronger partnerships founded on shared values and a commitment to human development remains essential to creating a more prosperous and inclusive Nigeria.”
Obi concluded the message with his signature campaign slogan: “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
