Veteran Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha is set to begin a new chapter in his career after agreeing to join Chilean football powerhouse Colo Colo following his outstanding performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 40-year-old shot-stopper, who emerged as one of the tournament’s surprise stars, will leave Portuguese second-tier side Chaves to complete the move to the 34-time Chilean champions.
Confirming the transfer, Colo Colo president Anibal Mosa said the experienced goalkeeper is expected to arrive in Chile soon to finalize the deal.
“Vozinha is set to become a Colo Colo player; he will arrive in Chile in the coming days, undergo the necessary medical tests and will then be presented here at the Monumental Stadium,” Mosa told reporters ahead of the club’s league fixture on Friday.
Vozinha, whose full name is Josimar José Évora Dias, earned global recognition during Cabo Verde’s historic World Cup campaign. He produced a series of impressive saves, including a standout display in a goalless group-stage draw against eventual champions Spain.
He also played a key role in Cabo Verde’s spirited Round of 16 encounter against Argentina, where the African side narrowly lost 3-2 after extra time to the eventual runners-up.
Despite beginning his professional career relatively late at the age of 26, the veteran goalkeeper has built an extensive career across Europe and Africa. In addition to Portugal, he has previously featured for clubs in Cyprus, Slovakia, Moldova and Angola.
Explaining the club’s decision to sign the experienced goalkeeper, Mosa said: “He’s in very good form; that’s why we’re signing him.”
Beyond his exploits on the pitch, Vozinha has become an internet sensation. His popularity surged during the World Cup with support from Brazilian digital content creator Casimiro, helping his Instagram following grow dramatically from around 50,000 before the tournament to nearly 30 million.
Colo Colo, who are chasing another domestic title, currently sit comfortably at the top of the Chilean league table midway through the season and will hope Vozinha’s experience strengthens their push for further success.
