From 90 cases on Tuesday, Nigeria’s daily COVID-19 infections jumped up to 126 on Wednesday, confirming earlier warnings that complacency and relaxation of protective measures could be dangerous for the country.
About two weeks ago, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, cautioned Nigerians against relaxing in the observation of necessary protocols as COVID-19 cases drop.
The monarch was speaking with State House correspondents after a courtesy visit to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja against the backdrop of the sudden drop in the daily infections, which had come down to 156 cases.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), while announcing the 126 new cases on its official twitter handle @NCDCgov, also said that total confirmed infections had hit 56,604 with 47,872 discharges and 1,091 deaths.
According to the health agency, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) recorded the highest number with 37 cased, followed by Lagos with 27 and Plateau-16.
The remaining cases came from Kaduna-9, Abia-7, Gombe-6, Ondo-6, Imo-5, Delta-2, Ekiti-2, Kwara-2, Oyo-2, Bauchi-1, Kano-1, Katsina-1, Ogun-1, and Yobe-1.
