Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), in a move that could reshape the political landscape in the state and beyond.
The announcement was made on Saturday at the Government House in Bauchi, where the governor appeared alongside the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle.
The event drew key political figures and loyalists aligned with the Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the PDP.
Mohammed disclosed that his decision was taken in consultation with political allies and stakeholders, following an expanded meeting held behind closed doors earlier in the day.
The defection also involves several PDP members loyal to the Turaki-led leadership, signaling a broader shift within the party’s structure in Bauchi State.
Until his exit, Mohammed served as chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, a position that underscored his influence within the opposition party.
Observers said the governor’s move to the APM may have far-reaching implications for party alignments ahead of upcoming electoral contests, particularly in the North-East region.
While details of his next political steps remain unclear, the development is expected to trigger reactions within both the PDP and the wider political space in Nigeria.
