
Governor Bagudu addresses residents and gold miners At the bank of the river Niger at Warrah,
The Kebbi State Governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has donated the sum of N11millon to families of those who lost their lives in a recent accident on the River Niger, as well as defray the cost of search and rescue.
Recalled that over 100 people drowned in the boat purportedly due to over loading. Only 29 bodies has so far been recovered.
Governor Bagudu, who visited the people of Warrah in Ngaski LGA of the state over the tragic event, said the State would establish a law to enforce safety in the operations of boat and canoes, making wearing life jackets compulsory and maintaining a manifest for the identification of passengers.
Spokesman of the artisanal gold miners in the area, Mansur Sani Bakura, told the governor that, they have temporarily suspended operation in the area, in respect of the victims.
Governor Bagudu was also at the palace of the Emir of Yauri, Dr. Zayyanu Abdullahi, where he condoled the Emir over the tragedy during which the Emir requested the Federal and State Governments to dredge river Niger to clear obstacles inimical to marine transportation.
