The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Sunday announced that it has registered 98 new cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the total number of infections in the country to 168,540 confirmed cases.
As at Saturday, 10 July, 2021, the public health agency recorded one COVID-19-related deaths, leaving the total fatalities in Nigeria to 2,122 deaths.
The NCDC made this know in an update via its official website, https://www.ncdc.gov.ng, noting that the 98 new cases were reported from 3 states, including: – Lagos (94), Ekiti (3) and FCT (1).
It added that with the new cases, the total number of confirmed infections since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country had risen to 168,540 confirmed cases, out of which 164,431 Covid-19 patients have been discharged.
The NCDC further noted that there were now 1,897 active cases across the country in the last 24 hours and it has so far carried out sample test on 2,331,734 persons since the outbreak of the pandemic, last year.
Meanwhile, NCDC has detected a confirmed case with the SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant, also known as lineage B.1.617.2.
“The variant was detected in a traveler to Nigeria, following the routine travel test required of all international travelers and genomic sequencing at the NCDC National Reference Laboratory, Abuja.” The health agency said in a statement on Thursday night.
