Presidency has dismissed criticism from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) regarding the state burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing it as “manufactured outrage” and “a laughable tantrum”.
According to Presidential Media Aide Sunday Dare, the ADC’s press release alleging that President Tinubu’s government is exploiting Buhari’s passing for political gain is “dishonest” and “an insult to millions of Nigerians who genuinely mourned the loss of a statesman”.
The ADC had expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of Buhari’s burial, suggesting that the administration was using the occasion for political mileage.
However, the Presidency countered that the state burial was conducted with complete honor befitting a leader of Buhari’s stature, with world leaders in attendance and millions of Nigerians tuning in on television and social media.
The Presidency highlighted several achievements of President Tinubu’s administration, including : Stabilizing the naira and harmonizing exchange rates, boosting oil production to 1.7MBPD, delivering projects like the Ogbia-Nembe Road and Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, establishing commissions for balanced development nationwide, providing financial assistance to students, launching a scheme to promote economic growth.
Buhari passed away on July 14, 2025, in London, after a brief illness. His death sparked mixed reactions across Nigeria, with some mourning the loss of a leader while others celebrated his passing.
President Bola Tinubu has expressed condolences, urging the nation to come together in this time of sorrow.
