Abdulkarim Lawan reelected as Speaker of Borno House of Assembly

Borno State House of Assembly has again unanimously reelected Rt. Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan as Hon. Speaker of the 10th State Assembly for the fourth time.

The Clerk of the State, Mr. Jidayi Mamza disclosed that the House received a proclamation from the State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum to hold its first session on the 13th of June, 2023.

“The House has received message of proclamation from his Excellency Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum requesting it to hold its first session on Tuesday, 13 June 2023 based on powers conferred on him in section 105 sub section 3 of the 1999 Constitution as amended ” Clerk of the House announced.

“As such, Member-elect representing Marte, LGC State Constituency, Hon. Gambomi Marte moved motion for the nomination of Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan, the 9th State Assembly Speaker and was seconded by member-elect representing Jere LGC State Constituency, Hon. Abba Kyari Aji Kolo.

It will be recalled that Rt. Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan was the immediate past Speaker of the 9th Assembly and has also been presiding over the House since the 6th Assembly to date being the longest serving Speaker of the house since the establishment of the house in the first republic.

The House, further, unanimously endorsed the immediate past Deputy Speaker of the house, Hon. Engr. Abdullahi Musa member-elect representing Askira/Uba LGC State Constituency as 10th Deputy Speaker.

However, both members re-elected accepted their nomination and expressed their readiness to serve the house meritoriously in the 10th assembly, while appreciating the confidence reposed in them by the collective members of the house and promised they will not disappoint them.

In his acceptance speech, shortly after taking the oath of office and allegiance, Honourable Abdulkarim Lawan, who has been the Speaker for over 10 years, commended the members for re-electing him and appreciated the unity of the House.

He urged the newly inaugurated members to tighten their belt and work closely with the executive arm of government to transform the state in the areas of education, agriculture, health, security and Industrial among others.

The Speaker promised to operate an open door policy to move the assembly to another level.

The Speaker also announced names of Principal Officers of the 10th State Assembly which include House Leader as Hon. Dige Mohammed , member representing Kala Balge LGC State Constituency, Chief Whip of the house, Hon. Baba Ali Modu , member representing Mafa LGC State Constituency, Deputy Leader, Hon. Malami Wakil Korede, member representing Damboa LGC State Constituency and Hon. Audu Mustapha , member representing Magumeri LGC State Constituency.
