About 20,000 persons benefit from diabetes foundation in Cross River – Sen. Enoh

PATRICK ABANG Calabar –

A former lawmaker, Senator John Owan Enoh on Monday said no fewer than twenty thousand people have so far benefited from his diabetes foundation since inception in 2016.

Sen. Owan disclosed this in Calabar during a diabetes street walk to create awareness of the need for testing and management of diabetes across the 18 LGA of Cross River State.

The diabetes street walk was also part of the activities carried out to mark this year’s World Diabetes Day, which has the theme: Access to Diabetes Care”.

He noted that The John Owan Enoh (JOE) Foundation was set up as a private, Independent, non partisan, non religious organization, to contribute to the alleviation of adverse effects of Diabetes Melitus in Nigeria, especially in central region of Cross River State .

He said the foundation was set up to ensure that the prevalent of Diabetes Melitus in targets communities is significantly curbed and useful resources are provided through periodic interventions to many Individuals and communities.

Earlier while flagging off the road walk, the state’s Deputy Governor, Professor Ivara Isu commended the ingenuity of the foundation, saying over 570,00 people are at risk of Diabetes Melitus that requires huge support from corporate organization and wealthy Individuals.

The deputy governor said the exercise is one of the ways of keeping away Diabetes Melitus and urged the people to continue to support the foundation.
