Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Thursday handed over brand-new Toyota SUVs to traditional rulers across the state, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the welfare and dignity of the traditional institution.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony held in Akure, Aiyedatiwa described the gesture as a landmark effort to strengthen the bond between government and the royal fathers while enhancing their role in maintaining peace and cultural heritage.
> “As custodians of our rich cultural heritage, the preservers of our values, and the closest link between government and the grassroots, our administration recognises your importance and cannot afford to neglect your welfare,” he said.
The governor noted that his administration had, within its first year, completed the long-abandoned secretariat project for the state’s traditional council — a milestone he said demonstrated his government’s dedication to the royal institution.
> “This achievement, coupled with the prompt payment of the statutory five per cent of total fund allocation to the 18 local government areas of the state from the federation accounts to our traditional institutions, underscores our firm dedication to your cause,” Aiyedatiwa stated.
He announced that all Grade ‘A’ Obas would receive a Toyota Fortuner Jeep (2025 Model), while Grade ‘B’ and ‘C’ Obas would soon get Toyota Corolla Cross SUVs (2025 Model). The vehicles, he said, symbolize “dignity, honour, and respect” for the state’s traditional rulers.
The governor urged the monarchs to continue supporting his administration, assuring them that their welfare would remain a top priority.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, commended the governor for keeping his promise to the traditional leaders.
> “This gesture recognises the invaluable roles of our royal fathers in promoting peace, unity, and community development across Ondo State,” Takuro said, advising the monarchs to make good use of the vehicles.
In his remarks, the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, who serves as the Chairman of the State Council of Obas, lauded Governor Aiyedatiwa for his consistent support and goodwill towards traditional rulers.
> “The governor has always been a pleasant surprise to us in his good deeds,” Oba Ogunoye noted. “We, the traditional rulers, will continue to be partners in progress with his administration.”
