Nasarawa State Government has received the Federal Government’s approval to construct two flyovers in Mararaba — a move aimed at tackling the area’s notorious traffic congestion.
The Managing Director of the Nasarawa Urban Development Agency (NUDA), Mr. Wada Muhammed, announced the development while briefing journalists in Lafia on Thursday.
According to Muhammed, the approval came from the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, following a request by Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration.
> “By the grace of God, Gov. Sule has secured approval from the Minister on Oct. 27 to construct two flyovers in Mararaba,” Muhammed said.
“These flyovers will end the persistent traffic congestion in the area and make movement easier for residents, motorists, and travellers.”
He added that construction work would commence soon and is expected to be completed within 18 months.
Muhammed emphasized that Governor Sule’s government has ensured equitable development across all local government areas, noting that each has at least two major projects either ongoing or completed.
Speaking further on the Keffi flyover project, the NUDA boss said construction was progressing well and could be delivered ahead of schedule due to the contractor’s capacity and steady funding.
He explained that a brief delay occurred after engineers discovered a major water pipeline running beneath the bridge foundation.
> “During excavation, we discovered that the main water pipe from Akwanga to Keffi passed directly under the bridge foundation. The design has been adjusted, and the issue has been fully resolved,” he said.
Muhammed also disclosed that the Lafia flyover and underpass were currently undergoing a temporary diversion to allow the addition of another asphalt layer — a measure aimed at improving the road’s durability.
He appealed to motorists and residents for patience during the construction period and urged them to adhere to traffic regulations.
The NUDA chief reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to enhancing road infrastructure and called on residents to continue supporting Governor Sule’s developmental agenda.
