Alia commissions Benue Public Service Institute, flags off training workshop for govt. house staff

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia has formally commissioned the Benue State Public Service Institute, Makurdi.
Governor Alia also flagged off a training workshop for Government House staff by the Institute.
Performing the ceremony at the premises of the Institute on Thursday, the governor said the establishment of the Institute was a deliberate move by the state government to improve on the performance of the civil servants and to also provide other essential services.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Sam Odeh, Governor Alia disclosed that the desire of the state government was for the Institute to become a reference point in the sub region and that explained why the management team was carefully selected.
The governor, who acknowledged the competence of the management team, expressed the belief that the Institute would improve on manpower in the state as well as other states of the federation that would come to acquire knowledge.
Governor Alia, who challenged the management team to think outside the box by devising other means of generating funds, assured however that government would look into the challenges faced by the Institute with a view to addressing them.
He urged all the participants of the training workshop to be serious with the training so that people do not have wrong impression of the Institute and also charged the management team not to compromise.
In her comment, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mrs Deborah Serumun Aber who appreciated the efforts of the governor in the establishment of the Institute assured that she would work closely with the management team of the Institute for them to succeed.
The Director General (DG) of the Institute, Professor Terkura Tarnande who appreciated Governor Alia for the opportunity to serve at the Institute promised not to disappoint the government and people of the state.
The DG informed that the Institute has drawn over 14 programmes to cover local government staff, core civil servants and traditional rulers in the areas of human resource and leadership development, public service performance and development and finance and accounts among others.
The Director of administration and finance, Barr. Cecilia Ohemu, in her vote of thanks, appreciated the Governor for the opportunity to serve the state and assured that they would remain committed in their assignment so as to record success at the Institute.
