Anambra may lose football hosting rights if…FA Chairman

Chairman of Anambra State Football Association, Chikelue Iloenyosi,

Anambra may lose all football hosting right if the state government goes ahead to build the proposed leisure park at the Awka township stadium.

Chairman of Anambra State Football Association, Chikelue Iloenyosi, stated this when he received members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), led by Frankie Omonkhua, Southeast Vice President (VP), in his office on Saturday.

Iloenyosi said the current level of activity in the State football was largely inspired by the availability of the standard football pitch which he noted was not fully completed.

He said the stadium was doing well with Nigeria Football Federation matches like the NPFL, Nigeria National League and Nationwide League One matches but noted that these games may no longer be possible if an amusement park was built within the vicinity.

“It is true that we are hosting matches but all the approval we have may be withdrawn if an amusement park where children come to play is built there.

“The stadium as it is, still has a lot to be done. We need floodlight, car park, indoor sports hall, tennis courts, training pitches and all that.

“I believe the government is a listening one which is why they have not commenced work,” he said.

In his remark, Omonkhua said he was in Anambra to inform the FA Chairman of his emergence as Southeast VP of SWAN and also commend him for his efforts at taking football in the State to higher height.

He promised that SWAN Southeast would work with the Anambra FA. (NAN)
