The leaders of Nigeria Anglican and Roman Catholic Commission (NARCC) made the call at meeting on Thursday in Lafia, Nasarawa State capital.

The Nigeria Anglican and Roman Catholic Commission (NARCC) has decried the proliferation of churches and dis-unity among Christians in the country.
The commission also called on all Christians be united and win souls to God instead of unnecessary competition for members.
The leaders of the commission of the two Churches made the call at meeting on Thursday in Lafia, Nasarawa State capital.
Most Rev. David Ajang, Catholic Bishop of Lafia Diocese, who spoke at the event, said that there seems to be very little synergy among Churches to preach repentance and salvation.
Bishop Ajang, who lamented the development, said what is happening more is that Churches seem to be competing with each other for membership and relevance.
“By so doing, evangelization us relegated to the background and the need to swell the number if followership becomes the main goal of the church.
“Such an approach is counterproductive as it neglects the ecumenical imperative if Jesus as contained in Matthew 28:19-20.
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nation’s, baptising them in the name of the father and of the son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you, and I am with you always, even to the end of the age,” the Bishop added.
Ajang explained that unfortunately, the objectives of most of the denominations of increasing church attendance does very little to adding to the numbers of Christians.
He said there actions amount to a mere change of label from one denomination to another and not to the growth of Christianity.
Bishop Ajang therefore called on all denomination to focus on ensuring that those still living in sin, are repented in order to tackle the ills of the society and make it a better place free of kidnapping, corruption among others.
On his part, Most Rev. Michael Fape, Co-Chairman, Nigeria Anglican-Roman Catholic Commission said the union between the two denominations is an important way to Foster unity among the their members.
He added that the commission seeks among other aimed to celebrate those things which unit them together in their earthly pilgrimage rather than magnifying their differences.
He also urged that the commission was formed to to ensure unity and practical evangelism to meet God’s expectations through them and not to examine which of the church among them has the best doctrine or is more authentic in practice.
The highlight of the meeting includes; paper presentations from resource persons and singing and prayers for peace and unity of the church and the country.
The meeting had in attendance Priests from Anglican and Catholic Church, as well as members from within and outside Nasarawa State.
