Over 8000 students to benefit from scholarship in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Government has commenced the disbursement of bursary allowances to over 8,000 students studying in different institutions of higher learning across the country for 2020/2021.

Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Scholarship Board, Hajia Sa’adatu Yahaya, disclosed this, in a press briefing in Lafia.

She said the state have review upward scholarship grant of indigent students studying law, medicine and the disabled in various higher institutions across the country.

Hajia Yahaya, explained that the gesture would also be extended to other students to ease their educational pursuit, stating that Governor Abdullahi Sule, gave approval for the review for the law students from N100,000 to N3000, 000

She said the scholarship grant for the disabled students has been jacked from N10,000 to N30,000, while other indigent students in other disciplines would be paid N20,000 instead of N10,000 respectively.

“As a demonstration of the commitment of the administration, His Excellency, Engineer Abdullahi A. Sule, on coming onboard in 2019, promptly cleared the backlog of bursary and scholarship grants to Nasarawa State indigenes studying in tertiary institutions since 2016, amounting to a whopping sum of N195m covering the period 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020,” she explained.

According to the executive secretary, a number of students pursuing special courses are currently in Cyprus, Turkey, Philippines and India among others country.

“Since it inception, the present administration, under the leadership of Abdullahi Sule, has continued to accord education topmost priority, considering the pivotal role the sector plays in the upliftment of the standard of living of the citizens.

The administration has committed enormous resources in form of scholarship and bursary towards ensuring that the less privileged background acquire their western education.

The Executive Secretary said that the board has mobilized personnels to ensure speedy disbursement, saying that the disbursement would kick start from October 20th to last till November 4.
