Bandits?
A pre-dawn raid by armed bandits on Monday threw Kebbi State into panic after dozens of schoolgirls were seized from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area.
According to the Police Command’s spokesperson, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, who issued a statement in Birnin Kebbi, the attackers “wielding sophisticated weapons and shooting sporadically” slipped into the school around 4 a.m. and headed straight for the students’ hostel.
Police tactical units already stationed in the area engaged the gunmen, Abubakar said, but the bandits had “scaled the school fence and abducted 25 students … to an unknown destination” before they could be stopped.
The attack also claimed the life of one resident, identified as Hassan Makuku, while another, Ali Shehu, sustained a gunshot wound to his hand.
In response, security operatives were immediately reinforced. Abubakar confirmed that a joint team of police tactical squads, soldiers, and local vigilantes has since begun sweeping suspected routes and forest paths in a coordinated push to track the kidnappers and rescue the schoolgirls.
He added that Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, has restated the command’s resolve to protect lives and property across the state, urging residents to stay calm, stay alert, and continue cooperating with security agencies as the operation intensifies.
