The Bauchi State Government said it has acquired the sum of N2.5 billion loans for the renovation and upgrading of 24 general hospitals across the state.

The Governor of the State, Bala Mohammed, who disclosed this on Monday at the Alkaleri General Hospital during an inspection of projects awarded by his administration across the state, said that 12 new hospitals would be built, while 12 others in dilapidated condition would be renovated.

Governor Mohammed, who lamented the level of dilapidation of the hospital, said that over N300 million is needed to renovate the Alkaleri General Hospital out of which a commercial bank, has spent N100 million to renovate a section of the hospital.

He said: “We inherited a government that left a lot of dilapidation and decay in our systems especially our education, health, water resources even our agriculture, everything about our collective lives was so abandoned and neglected and that is why we are taking it sector by sector”.

“Please, bear with us, many things have collapsed and you can see that this hospital is so dilapidated such that you cannot even keep a dog in it”.

“And that is how things have collapsed across Bauchi state, it is not only the Alkaleri General Hospital, all our hospitals, all our schools have also collapsed and we are renovating them including big and small schools”.

“We have taken a N2.5 billion loan from a commercial Bank for the renovation of 12 hospitals and construct 12 others and this hospital, Alkaleri General Hospital, is among those we will renovate”.

“UBA gave us N100 million to renovate this hospital out of corporate social responsibility. I am not praising myself, if I was corrupt, I would have collected this money for myself. They gave me this money but I told them to go and renovate the hospital.”

The Governor who hails from Alkaleri LGA, said that his administration would soon provide the Alkaleri General Hospital with a big generator and other facilities needed there, including the construction of roads and installation of solar panels for the benefit of the people.

He called on the people to be more patient with his administration in its quest to better the lives of the people across the state.

Governor Mohammed, however, charged them to live in peace among themselves and be very vigilant and wary of criminals who might want to come into the LGA to commit crime and cause crisis.
