In a surprising turn of events, the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Mr. Hyacinth Dajoh, has tendered his resignation, barely 48 hours after dismissing four lawmakers, a move that sparked controversy in the state’s political landscape.
The resignation was announced via a letter shared on Dajoh’s Facebook page on Sunday, August 24, 2025.
In the letter, Dajoh stated, “I hereby resign my position as Speaker of the 10th Benue State House of Assembly, effective August 24, 2025. This decision is made in good faith and in the best interest of our beloved state.”
He expressed gratitude to his colleagues, noting, “I am deeply thankful for the privilege to have served as the first among equals and for the support of my fellow lawmakers during my tenure.”
The abrupt resignation comes on the heels of Dajoh’s controversial decision to sack four lawmakers, a move that intensified tensions within the assembly and drew sharp criticism from political observers in Benue State.
While Dajoh did not explicitly link his resignation to the sackings, political analysts suggest the timing indicates internal pressures within the assembly may have played a role.
Dajoh, representing Gboko West State Constituency, reassured constituents of his continued commitment, stating, “I remain dedicated to serving my IP constituency and contributing to the legislative duties of the House as a lawmaker.”
The resignation has left many questioning the future direction of the 10th Benue State House of Assembly as it navigates this period of political uncertainty.
