Benue State House of Assembly has appointed Mr. Alfred Berger (APC, Makurdi North) as its new Speaker following the abrupt resignation of Mr. Hyacinth Dajoh.
The decision was made during an emergency plenary session, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The motion for Berger’s election was proposed by Mr. Douglas Akya (APC, Makurdi South) and supported by Mr. Abu Umoru (PDP, Apa).
Presiding over the session, Deputy Speaker Mrs. Lami Danladi called for a vote, with all members unanimously endorsing Berger’s appointment.
In his acceptance address, Berger praised his predecessor, stating, “Mr. Hyacinth Dajoh’s contributions to legislative progress in Benue State remain commendable.”
He vowed to foster unity among members, promising an inclusive leadership approach.
According to NAN, Dajoh’s resignation on Sunday sparked debate, with political analysts labeling the circumstances as contentious.
