Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia
By TYAV SAM TYAV, Makurdi –
Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has firmly denied any involvement in the recent unsuccessful attempt to impeach Mr. Aondona Dajoh, the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly.
The clarification was made in a statement released on Friday in Makurdi by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Tersoo Kula.
The impeachment effort, initiated by some House members on Thursday, led to the suspension of four members for three months during Friday’s plenary session due to their roles in the failed plot.
In the statement, Governor Alia underscored his commitment to democratic principles, stating, “I have utmost respect for the rule of law and the principle of separation of powers, and I hold the Assembly in high esteem.”
He further highlighted his consistent responsiveness to the House, noting, “This commitment was demonstrated only a few days ago when I promptly upheld and implemented critical resolutions of the Assembly conveyed to my office.”
Alia reaffirmed his strong partnership with the Dajoh-led Assembly, emphasizing, “I maintain a cordial working relationship with the Speaker and the House, and I remain dedicated to supporting their legislative duties for the progress of Benue State.”
