
Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia has promised to strengthen her resolve to partner the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to enable it perform optimally for the benefit of the people of the state.
The governor said this on Thursday during a maiden stakeholders town hall meeting organised by the FRSC Benue State Sector Command for the various stakeholders on the Theme Stakeholders Engagement: A critical component for safer lives.
Represented by the Commissioner for Power, Transport and Renewable Energy, Omale Omale, Governor Alia said the state government would continue to do everything possible to facilitate the smooth performance of the FRSC.
The governor acknowledged the significant role of the FRSC in ensuring the safety of the road as well as the road users.
Alia noted that his interest was to ensure the best global practices and stressed the need for adequate legislation to bridge the gaps that bring failure which end in avoidable accidents.
According to the governor, it was part of the state government desire to protect lives and property that propelled the coming up of Executive Order which includes safe driving habits.
He informed that he gave marching order of the dismantling of all illegal road blocks on the Benue roads and urged the FRSC to sustain what they were doing particularly for this ember months.
He expressed delight that the FRSC has organised the town hall meeting at the right time insisting the his administration was committed to the safety of lives of the people of the state.
In his speech, the Corps Marshal FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, who was represented by the Assistant Corps Marshal and Zonal Commanding Officer, Yusuf A. Haruna noted that the programme has come up at a critical time when transportation was higher and the meeting would benefit everyone.
Mohammed who disclosed that safety was everybody’s business, maintained that everyone in one way or the other has connection with the FRSC as they work for the safety of lives of the people indiscriminately.
He urged the stakeholders to continue to caution all road users to avoid accident.
Earlier, the Sector Commander Benue State Command, Steve Oluwale Ayodele, informed that the Town Hall meeting was meant to create awareness, share ideas and operational strategies to.mitigate the projected traffic challenges faced.
He warned against speeding in excess, overloading of passengers and goods in excess of the approved vehicle capacity, poor vehicular maintenance among others.
