
Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia has said that the Benue State Government would establish a University of Agriculture, Science and Technology in Ihugh, Vandeikya Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking on Friday during the 22nd, 23rd and 24th combined Convocation ceremony of the Benue State University Makurdi, the governor noted that the establishment of the new university was to care for the educational needs of the people of the state.
The governor announced that a campus of the BSU would be established in Adikpo, Kwande local government informing also that the another campus would be established in the Benue South for the purpose of convenience.
Governor Alia who expressed happiness for the graduating students announced automatic scholarship for the forty four (44) first class graduates of the university for their Masters degree programmes.
Alia who appreciated the management of the university for keeping to the vision of the founding fathers disclosed that it was the commitment and dedication of the management that ha placed the university among other universities.
The governor assured that most of the challenges of the university would addressed soon and announced the donation of five hundred computers to the university and urged the graduating students to remain ambassadors of the university wherever they go.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Iorapuu, earlier in his speech informed that BSU would be conferring a total of 17,925 Degrees and Diplomas to deserving graduands at the 22nd, 23rd and 24th combined ceremony
The Vice Chancellor explained that 15,101 would receive Bachelor’s Degrees, 72 would be conferred Postgraduate Diplomas, 2,196 would receive Master’s Degrees while 556 would be conferred PhD Degrees.
According to Professor Iorapuu, 44 of the graduating students earned First Class and prizes would be given to the. accordingly.
The VC pointed out that six distinguished Nigerians including a former Governor of the State, Senator Gabriel Suswam as well as post-humus honours on the late former Minister of Steel Development, Wantaregh Paul Unongo and former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Colonel Joseph Akaahan.
Professor Iorapuu appreciated Governor Hyacinth Alia for the attention given to the University that enabled expansion, growth and development in the institution.
As to his achievements the VC disclosed that the university has recorded in the last four years much successes and witnessed tremendous feats in various fields and sectors including the completion of the Centre for Food Technology and Innovation Complex (CEFTIC) awaiting commissioning, TETFund Disaster Recovery /Rehabilitation University Water Works, TETFund Renovation/Rehabilitation of the BSU Central Library, Construction of Perimeter Fence, Procurement and installation of furnishing for the 576-bed student hostel among others.
