By SADIQ ABUBAKAR, Maiduguri –
The high powered Committee on Flood and Sanitation; headed by the Borno State Attorney General, Barrister Kaka Shehu Lawan has announced the ban on Langa Langa Sewage Disposal and Hygiene Services Company during a routine supervision of Saturday’s sanitation exercise in the state.
This followed the interception of the company’s septic tank by the committee when it came across an illegal activity of discharging toilet dump/sewage into Ngada-Bill River, which has been causing colossal environmental and health hazards.
Barrister Lawan, who is also the Commissioner for Environment, noted that dumping toilet sewage imply risking the users of the water source and its environs in high risk of disease, and eventually culminates in polluting the environment.
The Commissioner, upon careful deliberation and on-site investigation, banned Langa-Langa company from operating in the state.
According to him, the Langa-Langa company has no right whatsoever, to cause distress and environmental hazard amid the committee’s relentless effort to control flood, restore sanity in waste disposal and create a clean and healthy environment.
Barrister Lawan said the Langa-Langa Company would be thoroughly Investigated and handed over for prosecution through the Office of the Attorney General of the state.
He, however, said that the committee wish to warn once again all other companies or businesses to desist from illegal disposing and polluting of the environment.
