Borno Govt disburses N987m to flood-affected traders, distributes 500 water pumps to farmers

Borno State Government has presented a cheque of N987 million for disbursement to 7,716 traders impacted by the September 10 flood disaster in Maiduguri.

In addition, 500 water pump generators were distributed to farmers affected by the flood disaster.

The Chairman Flood Disaster Relief Disbursement Committee, Engr. Baba Bukar Gujbawu made the presentation during a ceremony held on Friday at the Monitoring and Evaluation office in Maiduguri.

Engr. Gujbawu explained that the committee, over the past two months, verified and distributed relief items to households in Maiduguri Metropolitan, Jere, and Mafa Local Government Areas, as well as to traders from nine different markets.

The verified traders include those from Gamboru Market, Monday Market, Tashan Damboa, Metro Plaza, El kanami Vegetable Market, Customs Area, Moro Moro Vegetable Market, Bukar Shaibu, and Budum Market.

He noted that beneficiaries were categorized based on the extent of damage to their businesses, ranging from minimal, partial to total loss, and emphasized that funds will be directly credited to their bank accounts.

“The committee categorized the affected traders based on the extent of damage to their businesses—partial, minimal, and total damage,” Gujbawu said.

The Chairman urged the beneficiaries to use the funds to rebuild and grow their businesses, adding that alerts would start hitting their accounts immediately.

In a similar gesture, the committee also presented 500 water pump generators to farmers affected by the flooding in Maiduguri and Jere.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Engr. Bawu Musami, received the items on behalf of the farmers and assured that the water pumps would be distributed promptly.

Highlights of the event was the symbolic presentation of a dummy cheque to the General Manager of Maiduguri Monday Market, Barister Loskurima representing the affected traders.
