In a significant step towards empowering women and girls, the First Lady of Borno State, Dr. Falmata Zulum has commended the graduation of 162 graduates of Skills Acquisition School Bolori II for their dedication and resilience
The event which took place at the skulls Acquisition School Ngarranam, Bolori II, Maiduguri was initiative by the Borno State Government as a significant step towards empowering women and girls, particularly those who missed formal education or are internally displaced persons .
The program also aimed at fostering economic growth in the state by equipping women with practical skills.
The State Commissioner of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, emphasized that the program aligns with Governor Zulum’s vision for a more inclusive and prosperous Borno State.
He also announced that each graduate would receive a start-up package to help establish their own businesses, alongside a dignity kit from the First Lady.
The Second Chance Skills Acquisition School, founded by the Mohammed Goni led administration, offered training in a variety of trades such as catering, computer craft, embroidery, knitting, cosmetology, paint work, salon services, tailoring, and throw pillow making.
The graduates, divided across these trades, showcased their talents during the ceremony, highlighting their achievements.
Goni Ibrahim, Senior Technical Assistant to the Governor on TVET, emphasized the program’s role in empowering women and enabling them to contribute positively to their families and communities.
Falmata Mohammed, a representative of the graduating class, expressed gratitude to the state government, the First Lady, and all those involved in making the program a success.
The Director of the Multi Aid Charity Initiative, Hajiya Maryam Gimba, encouraged the graduates to cater for themselves in order to be empowered , self reliant, useful and productive, saying, “These skills will empower you to become independent and contribute to the economic growth of our state.”
The event concluded with the presentation of certificates and start-up packages to the graduates, marking the successful completion of their skills training and the beginning of their journey toward economic independence.
