State Borno State Acting Governor, Alhaji Umar Kadafur flagging off the distribution of relief materials to victims of fire disaster at Fariya Garken Block IDPs camp.

The Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has distributed relief materials to victims of fire disaster at Fariya Garken Block IDPs camp.

Flagging off the distribution on Monday, the State Acting Governor, Alhaji Umar Kadafur, said the state would look into the possibility of providing IDPs with permanent shelter to forestall future occurrence of fire incident.

Alhaji Kadafur cautioned them to be very careful when using fire woods for cooking considering the nature of the environment they find themselves vulnerable to fire disaster.

He also commended SEMA for their prompt intervention in putting off the fire as well as timely provision of relief materials to the IDPs in the state.

On her part, The Director General of SEMA, Hajiya Yabawa kolo, said the fire disaster which occurred yesterday in the IDP Camp has destroyed no fewer than 83 house holds with food items and other valuables, thereby rendering the victims home less and stranded.

She added that SEMA through its rapid response team quickly mobilized to the scene of the incident and put off the fire and provised some relief itemsto the affected IDPs.

The Member of the House of Representatives representing Jere federal constituency, Engineer Satomi Ahmed, commended the state government for the immediate intervention through provision of relief materials.

He, however, appealed for immediate provision of temporary shelter to the stranded victims, considering the harsh weather condition and the on going fasting by Muslim faithful in the camp.
